Infrastructure Mapping

Produced for Newham ChangeUp by Aston Mansfield

The different types of local infrastructure organisation in Newham

In the course of mapping the services provided by local infrastructure organisations in Newham in May and June 2006, Aston-Mansfield Community Involvement Unit identified two types of organisations working with voluntary, community and faith sector groups in the borough:

Local Infrastructure Providers

Local infrastructure providers are those who work primarily with other voluntary, community and faith groups. They either provide a specialist service to these groups and / or they pass on knowledge and skills to enable groups to provide a better quality, more sustainable service to the clients they work with.

Local Infrastructure Contributors

Local infrastructure contributors are those who work primarily to deliver services to individual members of the public, rather than other organisations. However, they contribute to the strengthening of the local voluntary, community and faith infrastructure by periodically undertaking activities intended to pass on skills and knowledge to other organisations. Local infrastructure contributors do so chiefly as a means of complementing and improving their own service delivery and achieving their own aims and objectives.
